This summer, Brentford Voice invites you to celebrate a remarkable West London milestone with a free, public exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of the Golden Mile—the iconic stretch of the Great West Road that helped shape Britain’s industrial and architectural identity.
This special event launches the wider GM100 centenary programme, a year-long celebration supported by Hounslow Council, with the Golden Mile taking centre stage as a hub destination in the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) throughout June.
The exhibition offers a fascinating journey through time, exploring the story of the Great West Road from its official opening by King George V in 1925 to its evolution as a corridor of innovation and design.
What You’ll Experience:
-Historic display boards, curated from The Great West Road – A Centenary History by respected local historian James Marshall, highlighting key developments, architecture, and businesses that put Brentford on the map.
-“The Temples of Industry”, a moving short film featuring personal accounts from those who worked in the Golden Mile’s famous factories.
-A screening of rare archival footage and imagery, capturing the changing face of the area over the last century
Whether you remember the Golden Mile’s heyday or are just discovering its story, this event is an opportunity to connect with the past, reflect on the present, and be part of a new chapter in West London’s future.
No need to book—just drop in any time from 10am to 4pm on either day and enjoy this celebration of place, heritage, and community.
