Brentford Arts Centre and Affordable Housing Plans Take Major Step Forward

Plans for a landmark arts and culture centre in Brentford — set to be the largest in Hounslow — have moved closer to reality as the Council prepares to enter a collaboration agreement with developer Topland Group.

A report going to Cabinet on 13 May recommends progressing the next phase of redevelopment, which also includes affordable homes across three sites along Brentford High Street and Riverside. Provisional agreement has been reached with a housing provider, pending updated designs and planning approval.

An open tender will soon be launched to find an independent operator for the arts centre, with a focus on inclusivity, broad programming, and financial sustainability.

The project also promises public realm improvements, including better riverfront access and new community spaces.

Councillors Tom Bruce and Salman Shaheen praised the development as a bold step toward a fairer, more vibrant borough, despite national pressures on housing and the arts. Shaheen described the arts centre as a “world-class” destination for both local residents and wider audiences.

Finalised planning submissions are expected later this year, as the Council continues working with Topland and community stakeholders.
