Historic Gillette Factory to Become Cutting-Edge Film Studio Hub

The iconic Gillette Factory in Isleworth is set for a major transformation into a state-of-the-art film and digital production studio following Hounslow Council’s approval on March 17, 2025.

The revamped site on Syon Lane will feature six large sound stages, offices, workshops, and a public café. While key historic buildings, including the Gillette Factory and NatWest Building, will be preserved and refurbished, several non-listed structures will be demolished.

Despite concerns from Historic England, Sky, and TfL about visual impact and traffic congestion, the plans were accepted following design revisions and proposals for transport improvements. TfL has requested £1.15 million to address increased bus demand, and a new 413-space car park has sparked debate over car dependency.

The development, led by The Vinyl Factory, is expected to create over 3,400 permanent jobs, with 1,430 reserved for local residents. Councillor Salman Shaheen hailed the project as key to making Hounslow a hub for creative enterprise, aligning with the borough’s new 10-year Culture Strategy.

The scheme now awaits final approval from the Greater London Authority.
