Major Refurbishment of M4 Elevated Section Begins 9 March: Overnight A4 Closures Planned

The next phase of refurbishment work to the concrete pillars underneath the M4 elevated section. Connect Plus Services, who works on behalf of National Highways and Connect Plus to manage, operate and maintain the M4 in west London, are renewing areas of aging concrete on this important structure to keep it safe and maintained.

Connect Plus Services will be working under the eastern end of the M4 elevated section this year between the Chiswick Roundabout and Lionel Road. They plan to start the work in this area from Monday 9 March 2026 for up to 35 weeks until Saturday 7 November 2026.

Like previous phases, they need to set up scaffolding around the pillars and traffic management in the A4 Great West Road central reservation to safely complete the work.

To do this safely, the A4 Great West Road will be closed overnight:

Westbound:

  • from the Chiswick Roundabout to Ealing Road, between 10pm and 5am on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 March
  • The H91 bus service will be escorted through the closure
  • Access to affected properties and businesses will be maintained
  • A diversion for all other traffic will be signed via the A205 Chiswick High Road, A315 High Street westbound and B455 Ealing Road northbound

Eastbound:

  • from Ealing Road to the Chiswick Roundabout, between 10pm and 5am on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 March
  • The H91 bus service will be escorted through the closure
  • Access to affected properties and businesses will be maintained
  • A diversion for all other traffic will be signed via the B455 Ealing Road southbound and A315 High Street, A205 Chiswick High Road eastbound

Between March and November, a short section of lane three on the A4 westbound carriageway will remain closed near the junction with Capital Interchange Way. The two lanes from the Chiswick Roundabout onto the A4 westbound designated for the M4 will remain open, with the third lane designated for the A4 opening shortly beyond our work area.

No other lanes will need to be closed on the A4 eastbound carriageway, nor any pedestrian crossings or vehicle crossings over the A4, to complete this phase of work.
