In May 2025, the UWL Graduate School held their inaugural 3MT® competition, challenging doctoral students to present their research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience.
Cesar was awarded the Judges’ Choice Winner for his presentation, “Virtual Reality for the Visually Impaired,” and was nominated for the nationwide competition. The national final was streamed live on YouTube on 1 October, with the winner announced on 3 October.
Professor Aude Bicquelet-Lock, Director of Research and Development, commented: “We are immensely proud of Cesar and his achievement – his success reflects both his talent and the strength of our growing research culture at UWL. His outstanding presentation and innovative research embody the quality and ambition of our doctoral community, and we look forward to supporting him in the international round of the competition.”
After it was announced he was the Judges’ Choice Winner, Cesar said: “I want to thank everyone who has helped me on my PhD journey, my supervisors, my university, and my family. I also want to thank each one of the participants because their research has inspired me to keep pushing forward. This competition is only the beginning for us. I am excited to see what lies ahead and look forward to what is next!”
The UWL 3MT® University Final will return on 15 May 2026 at Weston Hall at UWL’s Ealing Campus, with workshops and heats taking place in the spring. The University looks forward to seeing even more brilliant presentations next year!
