Unit 1 Studio featured on BBC Tech Now

Unit 1 Studio, a resident business within the Golden Mile London Creative Enterprise Zone (CEZ), stepped into the spotlight on a recent episode of BBC Tech Now, showcasing the technology that’s rapidly redefining what a musical performance can be.

Unit 1 Studio is an independent, end‑to‑end avatar concert production company and their focus is on creating hyper‑realistic digital performers for live shows, virtual concerts, and legacy preservation. They combine VFX, AI‑enhanced CGI, creative direction, staging, and live event production into a single pipeline.

Their appearance on Tech Now explored their relationship and work with KT Tunstall – a creative partner, ambassador, and early adopter of Unit 1’s groundbreaking technology. Unit 1 created a hyper‑realistic digital double of KT Tunstall, demonstrating the studio’s ability to scan contemporary artists and produce lifelike avatars quickly and affordably.

To mark the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough album, Tunstall performed her song “Black Horse & The Cherry Tree” entirely through her digital avatar—crafted by Unit 1’s technicians.

Unit 1 Studio’s recent feature on BBC Tech Now signals a growing recognition of avatar‑based performance as a serious new frontier for the music industry. Their spotlight in the episode underscores a shift in how artists, promoters, and audiences are beginning to think about the future of touring, legacy, and creative expression. This is being supported by the ever-growing creative tech cluster within the Golden Mile London CEZ.
